Let’s explore another story about Wellington: “Hotel Review in Wellington, New Zealand.”

Mercure Wellington Abel Tasmal Hotel

This hotel is located on Willis Street, close to the French Embassy (where I applied for my New Caledonia visa), and it was the very first hotel I stayed at.

Pros: Clean, friendly staff, and a restaurant lobby conveniently located in the city center.
Cons: The hotel is extremely noisy as it is surrounded by construction sites, the soundproofing is poor, and the rooms are quite small and outdated. Although there is basement parking, the spaces are very tight. If you prefer parking at Wilson Parking, remember to ask the hotel for a discounted pass. With this pass, you only need to pay an additional 10 USD per night, or 40 USD per night without it.

Price: I booked this hotel on a Friday at 119 NZD per night. When I inquired about extending my stay for Saturday, the rate had increased to 179 NZD per night. The receptionist explained that it was due to a public holiday, though I can’t recall exactly which one.

After checking out of the Mercure Wellington Abel Tasman Hotel, I headed to Oriental Bay for a swim. Later, I searched online for another place to stay. I finally found one that seemed fine, but they told me the standard rooms were sold out. Upgrading would cost an extra 50 NZD, which I found too expensive, so I skipped it. Just as my phone battery was about to die, I was lucky enough to find Quest Apartment Hotel on Lambton Quay. They had rooms available at a reasonable price.

Price: Since it was a Saturday and also a public holiday, I paid 129 NZD per night. On weekdays, the rate is only 109 NZD per night.

For check-in, you can enter through the Terrace entrance (convenient for those driving, as it has parking facilities), or check in from the Lambton Quay side.

I was very satisfied with this hotel. Quest Apartment Hotel also has several branches across New Zealand and Australia, so if you ever visit these two countries, I highly recommend giving it a try.

You may also consider staying at the elegant Oaks Wellington Hotel during your visit. From here, guests can enjoy stunning views of Oriental Bay, a picturesque turquoise beach right in the heart of the city.

The hotel’s prime location places it just steps away from Cuba Street, the lively Te Papa Museum, and the vibrant waterfront. With its stylish design and comfortable atmosphere, Oaks Wellington Hotel is an ideal choice for both leisure travelers and business trips.
